Color has a different definition from one field to others. If you ask designers about color, they will answer in various ways. However, science defines color as the spectrum of wave. Each of colors has different frequency which is important to identify. What is the psychology of color? You know that psychology is art and science to understand how human think, behave and live. There are many topics about this field and you cannot learn all of them at once.

Color is an interesting topic to be analyzed from psychological perspective. As you know, human cannot ignore color in their life due to part of life itself. Your body, skin, hair, eyes, and surrounding are covered in color. People with disability to recognize certain color is called as colorblind. Only men have this problem, which relates strongly to gender. Women might have this problem, but only in very tiny portion. More about color and psychology will be explained in the next sections.

The Psychology of Color for Perception and Nature Aspect

Starting point to understand the psychology of color is human perception. As biological creature, eyes capture certain wave then transform into color reception. In this matter, you may see different colors for one object due to eyes capability. Unfortunately, knowing color of thing is not essential because human has complex system of mind that generates behavior.

Each of colors has different aspects and civilization expands color to the new era. In past time, there are limited colors to use then they are transformed into thousands of choices after computer era. Monitor has only three or four basic colors, but generate more than what you can count. Color relates to brain perception then generate stimulus to act. For example, red is commonly known as hot and brave color that increases spirit. In the psychology of color, red has two aspects to explore. In general, people like brave and strong aspect of red. However, they do not like rough and rebellious spirit of red, which develops uncomfortable feeling.

Red is just one example of color from perception aspect. To counter much red, you need calm color, such as blue or green. When talking about green, nature is the most related aspect at all. Green represents leaves in tree. As you know, leaves have the capability to create their own food via sunlight, carbohydrate, and soil essence. This is true meaning of green in the psychology of color. There are many definitions and explanations for green, but nature still stays on the top to gather all of definitions.

Human cannot be separated form nature. Big city started from small farm then turned into village. We live in the world where nature involves in many aspects. Digital life does not replace nature but creates more chance to have more understanding. To know nature, color is the best way as starting point. Culture and civilization evolved with color is the key figure. People use color to define their status and value which is easily recognized through flag. Red, yellow, and green are traffic color to keep human in check and act properly when driving. Therefore, the psychology of color is important to understand human and their nature.
